Building Codes

On January 1, 2008, the following 2008 County of Los Angeles building codes are effective:

  • Building Code (Title 26), based on the 2007 CA Building Code, which is based on the 2006 International Building Code.
  • Plumbing Code (Title 28), based on the 2007 CA Plumbing Code and the 2006 UPC.
  • Mechanical Code (Title 29), based on the 2007 CA Mechanical Code and the 2006 UMC.
  • Electrical Code (Title 27), is based on the 2007 CA Electrical Code and the 2005 NEC

On September 1, 2005, the following 2005 County of Los Angeles Electrical code became effective. The Electrical Code (Title 27), is based on the 2004 CA Electrical Code and the 2002 NEC

On October 1, 2005, the 2005 Building Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings became effective. The entire 2005 Energy Efficiency Standards can be viewed at the California Energy Commission website by using the link provided. Title 24

Enforcement of the provisions of each code begins on the effective dates listed above for projects with an application date on or after their respective effective date. Each code incorporates local County of Los Angeles amendments and the respective State and model codes.
