SWIMS (Solid Waste Information Management System) is a web based application that provides users with a streamlined
approach to reporting customized figures for cities and unincorporated areas in the
County. Users can now generate reports in minutes where it used to take several days
and significant staff time. Through the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology,
advanced databases, and state of the art development platforms, impressive cost avoidance is
achieved while complying with State of California solid waste disposal reporting requirements.
For its outstanding work in reducing the amount of manual effort involved in collecting data
from disposal facilities, waste haulers, and transfer stations, in addition to dramatically
decreasing the probability of human error in data processing, we are pleased to present SWIMS
with an E-Government Project of the Year Award.
