Harbor House
Located in Marina del Rey, this restaurant implemented a glass and cardboard
recycling program after receiving a site visit from the Business Recycling
Consultants. While interested in the concept of recycling, the restaurant
did not know where to find the most appropriate recycling company for
its needs. Today, Harbor House is diverting 18 tons of glass and 4 tons
of cardboard boxes annually.
La Reina
This tortilla manufacturer located in East Los Angeles received a site
visit from the Business Recycling Consultants which resulted in the eventual
establishment of a full scale cardboard, metal, and mixed paper recycling
program that is now recovering a total of 440 tons of paper, cardboard,
and metal from its facility annually.
Los Angeles College of Chiropractic
Based on recommendations by the Business Recycling Consultants, the college
converted its standard lawnmowers to mulching mowers, and began grasscycling
three acres of lawn. As a result, the college now saves $3,600 in annual
operating costs and 128 staff hours a month.
Remo
Remo Inc., the world's largest manufacturer of musical drum heads, is
located in unincorporated Los Angeles County adjacent to the City of Santa
Clarita. The Company has an extensive recycling and reuse program for
miscellaneous plastics, high grade metals, wooden shipping crates, paper,
cans, bottles, and cardboard boxes. In 1999, the company earned $28,000
for scrap metal recycling and saved $14,000 in avoided landfill disposal
costs.
Sungdo
Sungdo, a textile manufacturer in Rancho Dominguez, instituted a collection
program for mixed paper, film plastic, and textiles. The Business Recycling
Consultants helped Sungdo locate several recycling companies, which are
now collecting more than 80,000 pounds of scrap materials each month.
The company has reduced its annual waste disposal fees by $6,000 to $10,000.
