 Green Waste Management Resource Guide

 Beverage Container Recycling

Six billion bottles and cans go unrecycled every year. Choose refillable containers whenever you can, and ALWAYS recycle bottles and cans. Recycling beverage containers is a triple play, it keeps neighborhoods clean, fights global warming and put cash in your pocket! Click here for more information and to find recycling centers near you.

Reduction of Waste from Single-Use Items and Expanded Polystyrene Products Ordinance

As of May 1, 2023, permanent food facilities who choose to use and distribute single-use foodware and accessories are to ensure they are compostable or recyclable. Retail establishments are also now prohibited from offering products made from expanded polystyrene (also known as Styrofoam®), such as coolers, packaging materials, single-use articles such as cups, plates, and similar items, and pool toys, unless the products are encased in a durable material. As of June 1, 2022, full-service restaurants have been required to serve ready-to-eat food with utensils specifically designed to be cleaned after each use and reused. Food facilities are to continue providing customers with single-use articles (such as straws, forks and spoons) only upon customer request or consent. And online platforms are to continue offering a way for customers to select single use foodware accessories they wish to be packaged with their food order. The ordinance applies to food facilities and retail establishments that are located within the County unincorporated area and County facilities as well as to online food-ordering businesses.

 Every Drop Counts

Did you know that used motor oil never wears out and can be recycled and reused? Motor oil improperly disposed onto the ground or into storm drains can contaminate and pollute the soil, groundwater, and the ocean. Take your used motor oil to one of 650 certified collection centers in California or an auto parts store in your area to be recycled for free. Click here for more information.
