Recycling for Schools

The Smart Business Recycling Program offers resources and consultation services that can help schools in the Los Angeles County unincorporated areas reduce the amount of trash they generate and throw away and implement new recycling practices or enhancing existing practices. Engaging students in recycling provides learning opportunities about environmental issues and the impacts of every day decisions.

Recycling is the Law

Mandatory Recycling for Schools

Effective July 1, 2012, the State's Mandatory Commercial Recycling law (AB 341) requires all institutions, including schools, to arrange for recycling services.

Beginning April 1, 2016, the State's Mandatory Organic Waste Recycling law (AB 1826) will phase in requirements for institutions, including schools, that generate specified amounts of green waste to arrange for recycling services for that material
