NEW COMMERCIAL TRASH COLLECTION FRANCHISE TO BEGIN JULY 1

The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors awarded a seven year non-exclusive commercial solid waste franchise agreement to qualified waste haulers to provide commercial waste collection services. Beginning July 1, 2012, all unincorporated County residents and businesses that utilize dumpster/roll-off trash collection service, such as commercial and multifamily properties, will begin to receive new and improved trash collection service.

Under the new system, all permitted waste haulers, will continue to offer service provided they meet minimum performance and customer service standards. The non-exclusive franchise system will replace the current open-market system mainly due to new State recycling laws, public attitudes towards protecting the environment, customers’ desire for enhanced recycling and collection services, and diminishing space in landfills.

As part of the new service, commercial customers will now enjoy:

● free recycling services and on-site consultations,
● bulky item and electronic waste collection,
● holiday tree collection,
● graffiti removal,
● clean fuel collection trucks to reduce air pollution and noise, and
● customer dispute resolution.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available. For any questions regarding the new commercial franchise system, please call the franchise hotline at (800) 993-5844, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
