Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
I AM PLANNING TO INSTALL 12x10 PATIO COVER IN MY BACK YARD. I AM GETTING A UNIT DESIGNED BY WOODGUARD COMPANY WHICH REQUERS SIMPLE INSTALLATION. DO I NEED PERMIT FOR THIS?
THANK YOU

Answer:
A one-story detached accessory building not exceeding 120 square feet in roof area is exempt from the need to obtain a building permit. However, a building permit is required to install an attached patio cover. Please contact the Lomita Building and Safety District Office at the address indicated below if you have further questions.

It is recommended you speak to a representative of the Department of Regional Planning assigned to the Lomita District Office to determine any applicable zoning requirements that may affect the installation of your patio cover.
