Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
I am trying to find the Code for determining occupancy loads for commercial space. I am trying to calculate the exits required per square feet of space. And I think it also takes into account how many people work in the space.

Answer:
Section 1004 of the County of Los Angeles Building Code defines the requirements for determining occupant loads for any occupied space. The occupant load calculation will depend on the use or occupancy of the space, which is defined in Chapter 3 of the Building Code. Table 1004.1.2 gives the maximum floor area per occupant, depending on this function of the space.
