Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
I would like to know what details for bidding are available. I registered today; confirmation# 3220. Could someone please forward to me instructions, details, rules pertaining to bidding processes, to include minimums if applicable and time table(s). Thank you for your attention.

Answer:
We currently do not have any plans for an auction.

Preparing a property for auction takes a considerable amount of time. We will place these properties for auction when time and staffing permits.

The properties listed on our Public Works website http://ladpw.org/mpm/surplus/index.cfm were acquired as result of various County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works projects. The properties listed have since been determined to be excess to the needs of the Department.

Surplus properties are sold by way of public auction include those that are independently developable or those that are required to be sold by way of public auction by matter of Government Code. Depending on the property type, certain Government Codes must be followed when a property is sold, i.e. public auction. The list of properties on our website all fall under that category. Surplus properties not sold from previous auctions return to our surplus properties list and are shown available on our surplus properties website.

Once you join our mailing list on line and as soon as an auction is scheduled, you will be notified. You will receive at least 30 days notice prior to the date of the scheduled auction. Additional information, including required minimum bid amount will be available once an auction is scheduled. Minimum bids are based upon an appraised value, and need to be made in the form of a Cashier's check or Money Order.

Once an auction is scheduled, sealed bids would be accepted prior to the date and time of the scheduled auction, which will then be opened and read at the date and time of the scheduled auction. Anyone may bid orally on the day of the auction and absentee bids are not accepted. All public auctions are held in the Hearing Room of the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, 381 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, California.

Thank you for your interest.
