Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
Is styrofoam banned in Los Angelous County? Including LA city?

Answer:
LA County adopted the Reduction of Waste from Single-Use Articles and Expanded Polystyrene Products Ordinance which requires food facilities, such as restaurants, in unincorporated LA County to use compostable or recyclable foodware such as cups, plates, utensils, straws, and condiment containers. Products made of expanded polystyrene are also prohibited. You may promote the use of reusables and ordinance compliant foodware at local restaurants you frequent with some tips which can be found at the links below. Feel free to reach out to the City of LA Solid Resources Citywide Recycling Division by calling (213) 485-2260 or emailing SRCRD@lacity.org for more information on their single use plastic initiatives.
