So, what does Service Learning mean for you?
As a student of a teacher who is providing service learning in the classroom, you are getting a unique experience. Service learning gives you an opportunity to apply what you are learning in the classroom to a real-life experience. It is an opportunity to improve at communicating and thinking critically. As students, you have a crucial piece in this process. This piece is your VOICE. It is about putting your knowledge, creativity and commitment to use to improve the world around you! In this way, you can continue to develop your academic skills and also address the needs of your community in a fulfilling and FUN way.
The Generation Earth Program uses the following definition provided by the National Commission on Service Learning:
Service Learning is a teaching and learning approach that integrates community service with academic study to enrich learning, teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities.
