The new interface will enable Caltrans freeway traffic conditions to be displayed in real time on the County’s Information Exchange Network, an advanced traffic management system capable of sharing traffic signal data between multiple jurisdictions.

The Network is managed by Public Works’ Traffic and Lighting Division and located in the Department’s Traffic Management Center in Alhambra. It will eventually be able to provide a synchronized response to ease traffic congestion and reduce the impact of traffic incidents countywide.

Traffic engineers from the Division, Transcore and the MTA collaborated on the interface project by utilizing existing data from the MTA’s Regional Integration of Intelligent Transportations Systems project and the State of California’s Performance Management System.

The project was completed thanks in part to a $150,000 grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee. Additional funding for the $556,000 project was provided by Public Works and the MTA.

Cities already connected to the Network include Arcadia, Beverly Hills, Burbank, Diamond Bar, Downey, Gardena, Glendale, Inglewood, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Santa Clarita, West Hollywood and Alhambra.
