The project includes construction of a 11,293 square foot library was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.  The library includes a large reading area for adults, community meeting room, homework center to provide after school homework assistance for students, group study room, teen center for middle and high school students, children's area with an outside reading patio, express service checkout machines, public access computers with Internet access, and a new opening day collection of 42,000 books and other library materials. 

The project optimized energy performance and water use efficiency, enhanced the sustainability of the site, improved indoor and outdoor environmental quality, and maximized the use and reuse of sustainable, recycled, and local resources.

 

Divert waste from landfills:  335.67 tons or 95.299% of construction waste diverted from landfill.

 

Trees cut on site were made into Adirondack chairs, benches, and tables for use at the library.

 

Used 82.9% Forest Stewardship Council responsible forest management certified wood.

 

Reduction in potable water consumption: 106,585 gallons per year.

 

Optimize Energy Performance:  Savings of 306,194 KWh per year.

Improved educational and social amenities for local  and nearby communities.

 

In collaboration with community stakeholders, the library meets an important community identified need.

Improved pedestrian traffic to the adjacent local shopping center increasing the local economic activity.

 

Building efficiency will save on building operating cost over time.
