On Saturday, April 27, 2002, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works conducted a waste tire collection event in the Antelope Valley. This event continued the success of the previous year's event and collected 6,320 tires.
The event coincided with the Antelope Valley Environmental Pride Week which included an electronic waste collection and a household hazardous waste collection by the County, and an additional waste tire collection by the City of Lancaster.
The event was funded in part by the California Integrated Waste Management Board. Outreach included flyers, billboards, media releases and advertisements in newspapers. Sites for the event were held in Quartz Hill, Littlerock, and Lake Los Angeles.
