Whitnall Highway Stormwater Capture Project
The Whitnall Highway Stormwater Capture Project is led by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and is located along Whitnall Highway from Vineland Avenue to Cahuenga Boulevard in the neighborhood of North Hollywood. The project will capture stormwater runoff and infiltrate it through the soil to reduce local flooding and improve downstream surface water. Surface runoff will be captured at several locations near the transmission line right-of-way and then directed into a network of swales, culverts, hydrodynamic separators, and infiltration basins for pre-treatment and infiltration. This Project will help improve the long-term sustainability of the local groundwater supply and reduce the region’s reliance on imported water, while helping reduce local flooding.
The project is to begin the design phase during 2019. Project partners include the Los Angeles County Flood Control District and the Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Bureau of Sanitation.
