Public Works Volunteer Program

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Los Angeles County Public Works. We encourage County residents, employees and retirees to volunteer their time and talents to public service programs. Volunteers have strengthened communities by serving the needs of others, building bonds of trust among people and enhancing the future for our children. Volunteering provides you the opportunity to participate in the kind of community and world you want to live in.

Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste (HHW/E-Waste) Program

Assist by conducting surveys and answering questions from residents. You may also assist staff in mailing sharps containers to the elderly and residents with disabilities.

Recycling Events

Assist with event planning, coordination, operations and gathering data.

Community Events

Attend and assist employees at community events in educating the public on various environmental programs.

Construction and Demolition Debris Recycling and Reuse

Assist with closing out outstanding Notices of Violations, which may include contacting applicants and preparing reminder letters.

Support Services

Assist staff in preparing for events by packaging promotional materials.

School and Community Gardens

Assist with planning, planting and monitoring of gardens.

Illegal Dumping and the Antelope Valley Illegal Dumping Task Force (AVIDTF)

Provide support for meetings including, posting meeting notices and flyer distribution.

Recycling and Organics Outreach

Assist with surveying residents and businesses or participate in a focus group.

You are invited to submit a Volunteer Service Application via the County of Los Angeles Volunteer Portal at https://volunteer.lacounty.gov. You may also download and fill out the Volunteer Service Application and return it to the Volunteer Program Coordinator.

Please note that effective October 1, 2021, volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must provide proof of full vaccination. Therefore, new applicants must submit proof of vaccination prior to commencing any volunteer assignment.
