The essential systems for ten buildings at LAC+USC Medical Center were noncompliant and required nonstructural retrofit to meet the first compliance deadline. This first phase of nonstructural work is completed.
The same ten buildings will become noncompliant structurally and nonstructurally by January 1, 2008. A replacement hospital is designed to replace the programmed functions of these ten buildings and is scheduled to be completed by late 2006. Therefore, there will be no need to retrofit these existing buildings for the January 1, 2008, deadline. Following relocation of the functions from these buildings to the new hospital, the Plan recommends that the existing ten buildings be delicensed by January 1, 2008. SB 1953 allows hospital owners to amend their plans to retrofit or replace after submission of the Plan to OSHPD.
The design of the new replacement hospital is based on current State code requirements, and the new hospital will remain compliant past this January 1, 2030, deadline.
