The essential systems for the three hospital buildings at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center were noncompliant and required nonstructural retrofit. This first phase of nonstructural work is completed.
These buildings are structurally compliant for the second compliance deadline of January 1, 2008. However, from a nonstructural standpoint, the three buildings will be noncompliant, and the Plan recommends retrofitting these buildings before January 1, 2008. A FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant will partially fund the retrofit of the Central Plant Building and the Cooling Tower. The Grant for these projects amount to approximately $700,000, and these projects were substantially completed in May, 2002.
The three buildings can be made compliant with the requirements of the 2030 deadline, with additional nonstructural retrofit work. Therefore the Plan states that we will continue to retrofit these buildings, prior to the 2030 deadline.
