The project is a new 10,850-square-foot battalion headquarters fire station located in the City of Palmdale, that consists of a three-bay apparatus room, main office, day room, kitchen, an exercise room, Battalion Chief office and dormitory, and individual dormitory quarters for seven personnel.  The architectural plan conforms to the Fire District's new station prototype design/construction specifications adopted in 1999 and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and State Health and Safety requirements.  The project incorporated sustainable design features that allowed the County to secure a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification.

• Parking spaces for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles have been provided.
• 60.4 percent of the non-roof impervious surfaces on-site have been paved with highly reflective materials.
• 93.4 percent of roofing surface materials used complies with solar reflective values for steep roofs.

• The installed irrigation systems reduce potable water consumption by 74.7 percent.
• The project includes drought-tolerant landscaping.
• The project features low flow lavatories, shower heads, and kitchen equipment, which reduce potable water usage by 21.8 percent.

• The building energy efficiency exceeds the California Title standards by 22.6 percent.
• The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems use no CFC-based refrigerants.
• The project utilized 100 percent of the project's two-year regulated annual electric energy consumption from renewable green power.

• The project diverted 59.3 tons or 75 percent of on-site generated construction waste from a landfill.
• 10.14 percent of the total building materials content used by value was manufactured using recycled materials.
• 29 percent of the total building materials have been manufactured using raw materials that were harvested, extracted, or recovered within 500 miles of the project site.

Other:

• The project incorporated construction activity pollution prevention, construction indoor air quality management, Title 24 performance compliance report for minimum and optimized energy to minimize global warming potential, and low emitting materials.
• The project utilizes natural lighting by providing direct line of sight views for 90 percent of all regularly occupied spaces.
