Free Mattress Recycling Collection Events in the Antelope Valley

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, in partnership with the Antelope Valley Illegal Dumping Task Force, will host free mattress collection/recycling events in the Antelope Valley. Residents may drop off up to 10 mattresses/box springs at two Public Works Yards on the following dates: February 23rd (Littlerock) and March 9th (Lancaster). Only mattresses and box springs will be accepted – no other type of bulky items.  For event details, please click here.

County of Los Angeles Green Leadership Awards

On behalf of the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, we are pleased to invite you to submit applications for the 2019 "Green Leadership Awards" program.  This program recognizes outstanding efforts by individuals and organizations in fulfilling innovative strategies to improve our environmental sustainability. Every Drop Counts

Did you know that used motor oil never wears out and can be recycled and reused? Motor oil improperly disposed onto the ground or into storm drains can contaminate and pollute the soil, groundwater, and the ocean. Take your used motor oil to one of 650 certified collection centers in California or an auto parts store in your area to be recycled for free. A listing of certified collection centers is available at the State’s CalRecycle website (en Español). To look up the recommended oil change interval for your vehicle instead of defaulting to the oil standard of 3,000 miles, check your owners manual, or click here to easily find out for free the recommended time to change the oil on most vehicles made from 2000-2017. Report Abandoned Shopping Carts

If you see an abandoned shopping cart, you may report it to the California Shopping Cart Retrieval Corporation at (800) 252-4613, by email, or online. If you are an iPhone user, you may download the CartSnap application to report abandoned shopping carts.

Fats, Oils & Grease

The Department of Public Works is proposing amendments to Title 20 - Utilities of the Los Angeles County Code to incorporate and consolidate requirements for the control of fats, oils, and greases (FOG) in the sanitary sewer system. Public information meetings were held on October 16, 2008 and August 25, 2009 at Public Works Headquarters. The Proposed Ordinance (PDF, 409KB) (Updated September 14, 2009) amending Title 20 better defines the FOG program as required by the Statewide General Waste Discharge Requirements for Sanitary Sewer Systems. It also revises definitions to conform with the 2007 Uniform Plumbing Code and makes references to the Code of Federal Regulations 40CFR for Environmental Protection. Public Counter

Visit the Environmental Programs Division Public Counter to get forms, apply for permits, request technical reviews for industrial waste or underground storage tank plans or methane gas migration protection systems. The Public Counter is located in the Annex Building of the DPW Headquarters (map), (626) 458-3517, open Monday - Thursday, 7 am - 5 pm.
