Environmental Graphics Templates
Environmental graphics templates (.eps) and examples (.pdf) are available for download here. Refer to the LA River Master Plan Appendix Volume I: Design Guidelines, Chapter 4 for environmental graphics specifications, placement, and additional guidelines. Prior to using these templates, read the introduction chapters of the guidelines as well to understand the purpose and use of the guidelines. Fonts used in these templates are “Barlow,” an open-source typeface available for free download from Google Fonts.
Example Template File
Template files include general guidelines including minimum font sizes and guides for spacing content. The LA River Master Plan Appendix Volume I: Design Guidelines should be referenced for further sign specifications and placement guidelines.

Example .pdf files help to show what a completed sign template could look like. Content will vary per sign and location.

Please note that use of these templates does not exempt a project from following applicable laws for a specific site or project. For example, wayfinding signs within most public road rights-of-way must comply with the latest Federal Highway Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines. Professional signage consultants, landscape architects, architects, graphic designers, and other designers can assist project teams in navigating use of the templates, guidelines, and applicable codes.
